Our Board Directors bring a wealth of experience and expertise across a wide range of disciplines.
- Fiona Gallagher, Co-Chair
Fiona is a highly experienced income generation, fundraising and marketing professional who has enjoyed a multinational career with blue chip organisations such as BBC Worldwide (Vice President Joint Ventures, Europe, Asia, Latin America), News Corporation (Vice President Marketing, STAR TV Asia) and London & Partners/Visit London (Director of Commercial Ventures & Domestic Tourism). More recently, Fiona has focused on third sector and charitable initiatives, including as Director of Income Generation for a Sussex Hospice Care charity, member of the organising committee for the Worthing Festival, and Chair of Trustees of the Worthing Food Foundation.
Fiona is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (FCIM), holds a Level 7 qualification in Senior & Executive Coaching and Mentoring from the Institute of Learning & Management, and an MA from the University of Sussex.
- Debbie Green, Co-Chair
Debbie brings a unique blend of legal, nutritional, and community development experience to her work – driven by a deep commitment to equity, sustainability, and social impact. She began her professional career as a Solicitor in London where she was Head of Family Law at a legal aid firm. She retrained as a Nutritionist and runs a private practice focused on improving long-term health outcomes through personalised, evidence-based nutrition. Debbie is part of the management team at CREW (Climate Resilience Centre Worthing), founded the Sustainable Food Group and launched and runs the Worthing Vegan & Artisan Market. Debbie has also established a Food Waste Working Group to tackle household food waste and has also co-organised community workshops on climate change, plant-based diets, food security, and sustainability.
Debbie holds a Master’s degree in Personalised Nutrition and a certification in Nutrigenomics, and is a member of BANT, CNHC, and the Institute for Functional Medicine. - Margaret Howard
Margaret is deeply engaged in the local community as a Borough Councillor, Co-Chair of the Broadwater Community Association and founder of the Broadwater Community Support Hub, an inclusive community space which provides food support, a school uniform and baby bank, and a drop in cafe. Her compassion and commitment to supporting the most vulnerable in our community stems from her early experiences as the daughter of Irish immigrants, her work in the public sector and as a secondary school teacher for many years.
She is trained as a Samaritan’s listening volunteer and has a BsC in Human Science, a Postgraduate Certificate in Science Education, a Postgraduate certificate in Psychology and a Master’s in psychology of education. - Andy Sparsis
Andy is an entrepreneur, property developer, restauranteur and philanthropist who has launched and run several successful businesses in Sussex, including most recently the innovative Sleep eco-hotel in Worthing.He is the community engagement trustee for the South Downs Education Trust which runs one of Worthing’s biggest schools, Worthing High School. He is a Trustee of Worthing Theatres, Chairperson of the Worthing Theatres and Museum Trading Board, a Patron and founder member of the Worthing Hospital & Chichester Hospital charity trust (Love Your Hospitals charity), a Patron of the We are Food Pioneers’ social enterprise company and Patron of the Last Fisherman Standing project in partnership with the National lottery and Rampion wind farms. He is also a stakeholder of the “Time for Worthing” project run by Worthing Borough Council and Vice Chairman of the Greek Orthodox Community and Church of Sussex.
- Carl Walker
Dr Carl Walker is a chartered psychologist with over 25 years’ experience in academia, community engagement, community coproduction of wellbeing services and infrastructure, local authority strategic development and industry.
Carl is a community psychologist, a member of the British Psychological Society National Community Psychology Section committee and a visiting lecturer at the University of Brighton. His work involves leading action research projects on community wellbeing and coproducing community initiatives to address poverty, mental health and wellbeing needs.
Carl joined engineering consultancy Hoare Lea in 2024, where he is is part of the Social and Human Value service alongside the Societal Insights Unit. Carl has also been a Borough Councillor for several years and has run a number of local community charities including launching a local community non-referral foodbank, The Worthing Food Foundation. He now co-ordinates the Alliance for Dignified Food Support and publishes research on hunger trauma and volunteer and staff moral injury in the emergency food sector.
