In 2024 we held a series of stakeholder and community consultations to help shape our first Food Charter. Six key themes emerged from these consultations, and form the basis of our Food Charter:
Improve Food Security
Ensure all residents have reliable access to sufficient, safe, affordable and nutritious food.
Sustainable Food Economy
Improve sustainability and security in urban, rural and marine food production. Strengthen local agriculture and reduce reliance on imported foods.
Promote healthy eating
Build a local good food movement, encourage the consumption of nutritious sustainable foods and reduce diet-related health issues.
Reduce Food Waste
Minimise food waste at all stages of the food system.
Transform Catering and Procurement
Revitalise local supply chains.
Foster Community Engagement
Involve residents in building a sustainable food system through education and participation.
